Crochet at the Museum
Join crochet expert Kerry Lord and the TOFT team to crochet an exclusive, surrounded by the rich diversity of our Mammals Hall.
Crochet a beautiful Grey Whale designed exclusively for this workshop, inspired by the Grey Whale skeleton and other amazing models suspended from the ceiling of our Mammals Hall. You’ll be sitting amongst an amazing display of mammals, from mammoths to pygmy shrews.
Your ticket includes all the materials you need, including supersoft pure wool in TOFT DK yarn, toy stuffing, a soft grip three-millimetre crochet hook, a wool needle and thread and a printed crochet pattern.
Whether you’re a beginner or experienced crocheter, TOFT founder Kerry and her team will be on hand to guide you through all the required stitches and techniques.
TOFT has hosted a number of workshops with patterns inspired by our galleries, from Hope our blue whale in Hintze Hall to the dodos in our Birds Gallery. They even created a mini Charles Darwin doll that comes with its very own specimens.

All ages are welcome, but content is suitable for ages 16+.
Those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Arrive at our Darwin Centre via Queen’s Gate.
Doors will open at 18:30 for a 19:00 start.
Our cloakroom won’t be open during the event.
- You may change your booking to an alternative date as long as you inform us at least 30 days before the date of your original booking. Alternative dates are subject to availability and must take place within one year of your original booking. A £10 administration fee will be charged per booking. - Seating is available in the event space.
- The nearest accessible toilet is on our Ground Floor at the back of Hintze Hall, under the stairs. We also have a Changing Places toilet on the Ground Floor of our North Wing.
- Blue Badge parking spaces are available on request.
