Very similar to Paracidaris especially in ambulacral tuberculation, but ambulacra straight rather than strongly sinuous, and with pore-pairs subconjugate with the two pores widely separate by a raised partition. Differs from Alpicidaris only in having crenulate rather than non-crenulate tuberculation. Polycidaris has got somewhat imbricate adradial sutures and its primary tubercles have confluent areoles on ambital and adoral plates. Histocidaris has simple, uniform ambulacral tuberculation throughout and Zbindenicidaris has simple ambulacral tuberculation ambitally and adapically.
Anisocidaris Thiery, 1928, is a genus based on Cidaris bajociensis, whose neotype and only known specimen is a 15 mm individual in the Lambert collection. This has the same ambulacral structure as Nenoticidaris parandieri, the type species of Nenoticidaris, and rather similar large, circular areoles. However, the small size of the neotype makes definitive assignment very difficult. Vadet (1991) claimed that Anisocidaris bajociensis was simply a juvenile Cidaris spinulosa Cotteau (although this is by no means certain, since the two look very different). Since the defining characters of Nenoticidaris Vadet, 1988 rest on its heterogeneous ambulacral tuberculation, subconjugate pore-pairs and large primary tubercles with small perforate mamelons and crenulate platforms, Anisocidaris Thiery, 1928, is clearly part of this group and the senior subjective synonym.
