Project summary

  • Focus: Discovering new species of freshwater fish in Myanmar (Burma)

We are expanding the Museum's collection of freshwater fishes from Myanmar (Burma), introducing new species.

Our work focuses on collecting freshwater fishes from Southeast Asia, particularly Myanmar. Fishes from Myanmar are not well-studied historically, but more than 30 new species have been described in the last 10 years.

By collecting and studying these species, we will better understand the biogeography of this region and how it developed.

Biodiversity research

We are creating molecular and digital tools to explore undiscovered biodiversity.

Vertebrate research

Determining the diversity, biogeography, taxonomy and phylogeny of vertebrates.

Zoology collections

Our zoology collection has 29 million animal specimens and is rich in voucher, type and historical specimens.
