We are inspiring a new generation of professional and amateur scientists through training, citizen science and live science events.
As a leading international scientific research centre we have a unique opportunity to pass on valuable skills in science, curation and public engagement.
Training, events and citizen science
We are focusing on three areas of activity:
- Developing a national programme of training in science, curation and public engagement including postgraduate courses and training, UK species identification and recording, and professional training.
- Establishing an innovative citizen science programme that combines public participation with high-impact, relevant science. We are also part of the LEARN CitSci project, which is studying what impact citizen science projects have on the young people that take part in them.
- Delivering face-to-face and online events that engage the public with contemporary scientific questions and discoveries, building on the success of our Nature Live events, NHM Lates and annual European Researchers Night. We also work with artists who would like to explore our collections.
