Michael Rogers Oldfield Thomas (1858-1929), [c.1914]
Oil on canvas, 86 x 74 cm.
This portrait of Oldfield Thomas by John Ernest Breun (1862-1921)
depicts one of the most significant mammal collectors of the
late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Oldfield Thomas made a major contribution to the development
of the mammal collections at the Natural History Museum, so
it is very fitting that he is shown here proudly holding the
skull of a gazelle.
