This portrait depicts one of the greatest figures of the
eighteenth century, Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778). Through the
publication of the 10th edition of his work, Systema Naturae
he established a new system of classifying the natural world.
This laid the foundation for the naming, ranking and classifying
of organisms which is still in use today (Taxonomy).
