Kids Tour: The Young Explorers

This fun, interactive tour is packed with stories, activities and surprises for young explorers. Prepare to discover a world of dinosaurs, giant mammals and much more.

Join us on a fun-filled adventure especially designed for young explorers aged 4–7.

This 45-minute, interactive guided tour brings our fascinating specimens to life with exciting stories and hands-on activities. Kids will get to use a map, discover clues and take part in activities to uncover surprising secrets across our galleries.

On their quest, they’ll discover plenty of interesting specimens, from towering dinosaurs and mysterious marine reptiles to giant sloths and sabre-toothed cats. Highlights include meeting Hope our blue whale, greeting our roaring animatronic T. rex and imagining discovering fossils just like Mary Anning.

With plenty of fun facts and engaging questions, this tour is the perfect introduction to the wonders of nature and science. Each child will receive a sticker to celebrate becoming a young explorer. Let the adventure begin!

  • This event is fully wheelchair accessible.

  • The nearest accessible toilet is on the Ground Floor at the back of Hintze Hall, under the stairs. We also have a Changing Places toilet on the Ground Floor of our Blue Zone.

  • Blue Badge parking spaces are available on request.

  • We can provide you with a wheelchair or folding chair to carry if you email us.

  • Your tour guide will meet you at Hintze Hall, near the Seaweed Bay. There will be a sign pointing to this location.
  • Make sure to arrive on time, as the tour will start promptly at the stated time.
  • The tour is 45 minutes long.
  • Your tour ticket grants you access to the Museum up to one hour before your scheduled tour. If you plan to arrive earlier, you may need to book a free general admission ticket or join the walk-in queue.
  • This tour is designed specifically for children and their accompanying adults.
  • All ages are welcome, but due to the content of the tour we recommend it for families with children aged 4–11. Babies in arms go free.
  • Every adult and child attending need a ticket.
  • Entry to our paid exhibitions is not included in your tour ticket, these tickets must be bought separately.
  • You must bring an electronic or printed copy of your ticket. We’re unable to accommodate additional guests on the day.
  • Tickets are non-refundable, and no refunds or exchanges will be given to latecomers.
  • Ticket price doesn’t include use of our cloakroom – you’ll need to pay separately for this.
