About the Library

The Natural History Museum's Library holds more than 350,000 books and half a million artworks.

Our collections provide access to historical and modern material for researchers in the biological and earth sciences. 

Materials include:

  • international literature
  • manuscripts¬†
  • maps (topographical and geological)
  • photographs
  • artwork

The Library is reference-only and available to anyone who wishes to use the collections to assist in their research. Although primarily aimed at Museum scientists or postgraduate level researchers, there is a wide range of reference material to suit all levels.
