For over 50 years, the Natural History Museum has been an inspiring school trip location for both Primary and Secondary students.

Now, we invite you to bring that excitement into your own teacher training courses.

Our Trainee Teacher Days will give your student teachers an on-site, hands-on understanding of what makes a school trip both educational and unforgettable.

Your students will hear from our expert learning team as they guide them through the basics and support them on their journey towards becoming trained teachers.

Through interactive workshops, specimen handling sessions, and real-world demonstrations, your students will gain invaluable insights into designing and leading educational school trips.

Outline of the day

The day includes:

  • Dedicated training area: a reserved space for your trainee cohort to use during the day.
  • Expert-led facilitation: An experienced member of our learning team guiding your day and answering your questions.
  • School-trip essentials briefing: A beginner’s guide to school trips presented in our dedicated lecture theatre.
  • Hands-on experiences: Specimen handling from our learning collection.
  • Show and workshop taster: Experience one of our school shows or workshops for yourselves.
  • Resource exploration: A chance to try out resources and find out more about our learning programmes.
  • Gallery activity toolkit: An exploration of on-gallery activities to help your students plan their own class gallery experiences.
  • Free exploration time: Time for students to freely explore the galleries and exhibitions with their peers.
