Professor Jeffery (Jeff) Howard

Jeff is a philosopher at University College London, where he’s Professor of Political Philosophy and Public Policy as well as the Founding Director of the Digital Speech Lab. His first book, Setting Fire to Reason: The Ethics of Free Speech, is forthcoming with Princeton University Press.

Alex Newton

Alex is Deputy Director for Strategy and Development at More in Common. He brings more than a decade of management experience in the charity and campaigning sectors. As Director of Engagement at national oracy charity Voice 21, he led the public affairs, communications and school engagement functions. He has extensive experience in bringing together diverse stakeholders, helping people to navigate thorny issues and coordinating political campaigns. Outside of work, he’s a listening volunteer for the Samaritans, a mediocre but passionate cook and enjoys having his hopes dashed each year as an Arsenal supporter.

Dr Kyle van Oosterum

Kyle is a philosopher at King’s College London, where he’s a Research Fellow in their Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics, Philosophy and Law. His research focuses on the ethics of regulating social media and the role of civility in reaching into, and across, echo chambers. Alongside his academic work, he writes popular essays on politics, philosophy and academic life on his Substack, Unchambered.

Dr Daniella Watson

Daniella is a health psychologist, behavioural scientist and Research Fellow at Imperial College London’s Climate Cares Centre. Her work focuses on co‑designing and evaluating youth‑led research and interventions across the UK, Kenya, Australia, the Philippines and the Caribbean. She ensures that young peoples’ lived experiences shape global responses to the climate crisis. Daniella is also the co-convener and a trainer of Healthy Conversations Skills (Global) – a behaviour change communication adapted to support people to talk about the climate crisis.

• We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early to allow time to get to the Marine Invertebrates Gallery.

• When you arrive at the Museum, show your ticket to our staff to jump the queue.

• This event is wheelchair accessible.

• If you’re unable to wait in queues for long periods, speak to our security staff and they’ll fast track your entry.

• Seating is available in the event space.

• Guide dogs are welcome at the Museum. Water for them is available on request.

• The nearest accessible toilet is on our Ground Floor at the back of Hintze Hall, under the stairs. We also have a Changing Places toilet on the Ground Floor of our Blue Zone.
