Members Family Workshop: Deep Sea Discovery

Plunge into a world of deep-sea discovery as you join our marine explorer on a journey through the five oceans of the world. From Viking seafarers to mysterious trenches, each ocean holds its own unique secret waiting to be uncovered.

Did you know we’ve only explored around 5% of our oceans? That means 95% remains a mystery, and we’d love your help investigating them.

Join us for a new family morning hosted by Captain Joe, our resident marine explorer, who’ll guide you through a series of ocean-themed activities. Junior oceanographers-in-training will begin with an introduction to Earth’s oceans before taking part in hands-on games and activities.

In the Arctic Ocean, play grandmother’s footsteps to explore camouflage before sailing to the Pacific Ocean, where a thought experiment brings to life the deepest drop underwater. Then head to the Atlantic Ocean to learn about early seafarers like the Vikings, who navigated it long before famous explorer Christopher Columbus. In the Southern Ocean, play captain’s coming and think about melting ice as the space around you shrinks. Finally, get creative in the Indian Ocean with drawings, origami and colouring activities inspired by the ocean and its creatures.

No scuba gear required – just imagination, curiosity and a sense of adventure. Come aboard and help Captain Joe chart a course through the unknown.
