2006: Creative Visions - Highly Commended
Lorenz Andreas Fischer (Switzerland)
Bulls at twilight
When bull elephants began to congregate peacefully for their evening drink, Lorenz was nearby. He knew that, as it was the dry season, these would be the only waterholes in a wide area of the Savuti region in Chobe National Park, Botswana. 'The twilight was so irresistible', he says, 'I began to experiment for a while with long exposures, trying to conjure up the magic of the scene. When the huge bull passed close to my vehicle, I knew it was the final touch I needed.'
Nikon D2x with AF-S 17-35mm f2.8 lens; 3/4 sec at f7.1; 100 ISO; Singh-Ray hard grey graduation f2 filter; Gitzo Carbon 1227 tripod.
