Diagnostic Features
  • Test weakly cordiform; anterior sulcus virtually absent aborally; developed as a shallow, clearly marked furrow on oral surface; base flat.
  • Apical disc with four gonopores.
  • Paired ambulacra with small pore-pairs. Pore-pairs in anterior ambulacrum smaller and more oblique.
  • Columns of pore-pairs almost equally developed in paired ambulacra.
  • Peristome ovate; facing directly downwards.
  • Plastron plating meridosternous; biserial after the first sternal plate.
  • Periproct oral.
  • Slightly enlarged primary tubercles developed at ambitus.
  • No fascioles.

Subjective junior synonym of Scagliaster Munier-Chalmas,1891.

Remarks

Differs from Holaster (with which it was synonymized by Wagner & Durham 1966) by its oral periproct. Differs from Echinocorys in having a distinct groove on the oral surface leading to the peristome. Differs from Huttonechinus in plastron plating, Huttonechinus having an orthosternous plastron with a rostral plate.
