Acer palmatum, although there are more than 100 species of maple worldwide, only one species (Acer campestre) is native to the UK.

Following a change in career, Noel Cusa became a popular bird artist of the 1980s. He illustrated many contemporary bird books.

His attractive and atmospheric artwork, as shown in this drawing of the grey heron, wonderfully captures the character of the birds he portrayed.
