Summary

The naturalistic collections of the Regional Museum today represent a great resource not only for research but also for the dissemination of scientific culture, the issues of protection and conservation of the natural environment. The ornithological collections are nearly 10,000 birds from the collections Jannizzotto, Orlando, Trischitta and Vitale representing most of the 'European ornithofauna. These are joined by a smaller collection of exotic species and a collection of eggs and birds' nests. The Database Ornithology, is a computer file which ranks more than 9,000 specimens of birds making up the seven collections of the Museum.
