Brief history
Founded in c.1714 as private ‘Kunstkamer’ of Peter the Great, but intense skin collectioning occurred only from c.1820 onwards; from 1832, the coll. became part of the Zoological Museum of the Imperial Acadademy of Sciences (now Russian Academy of Sciences)
