Brief history

Founded in 1739 as cabinet of the Royal Academy of Sciences (under presidency of C. von Linné), but a real increase in the coll. size occurred only when a new building was erected 1819–1820, when also the private coll. of G. von Paykull arrived. A few hundreds of specimens from the last decades of the eighteenth century are still present. Now belongs to the Swedish government
