Notes

11 Records

Originally described from Bermuda as an Archiconchoecia species, this species has only been recorded from very deep water (2500-3500m). It was classified in a new monospecific genus by Chavtur and Stovbun (2003). However, the sizes of these specimens suggest that there may be more than one species. The species is typified by the general outline of its carapace and uniquely by a lens-like structures being situated low down on the posterior margin of each valve of the carapace. Some of the specimens are quite small relative to Deevey’s data, but one from 44°N 13°W is much larger (1.7mm – not included in the table of size). Most of the specimens are in a very poor state of preservation, as is often the case with such deep-living species that tend to be extremely fragile.
