Sara Russell

Captivated by televised sequences of the 1969 moon landing as a child, Sara has ever since been fascinated by space exploration and planetary evolution. A specialist in meteorites, she has conducted field trips to numerous deserts and also Antarctica, one of the best sites in the world for the collection of unique specimens due to less weathering, leading to less alteration in rock surfaces (meteorites that have fallen in Antarctica can last for millions of years).

Sara is fascinated by the rich histories that meteorites hold within their structures and marvels at how far science has developed since the 1800s, to understand these space rocks. Sara enjoys sharing and exploring this type of information with her colleagues in the Museum, and has been very active in working on space programmes to explore the moon.
