Parasite diversity and ecology

We are using both broad and fine-scale phylogenetics to understand the origins, diversity and evolution of parasitism.

Comparing the phylogenetics of the parasite, host and vector is leading to better understanding of

  • coevolution
  • cospeciation
  • interactions between host-parasite systems and the environment

Traditional taxonomic descriptions, revisionary systematics and faunal surveys are central to

  • the growth and development of collections
  • the preparation of keys
  • contribute to an understanding of parasite biodiversity
