'Meaty' slime mould

A friend who lives in Norfolk sent these images of what looks like a slime mould to me with the following info:

"Thought I’d send some photos of a growth which appeared on a fence post in the yard overnight, week end before last. At 8.00 am it was pale lemon, rough surfaced and about 8 x 6 cm. It rained all day and by 5.00pm it had changed to this dark pinky red colour ( like raw meat), more spongy and had shrunk to about 6 x 4. By next day it was dark brown and hard – and is still on the post. Another smaller one appeared yesterday on another post, nearby and went through the same process. It was about 2 x 1 cm." The date would be some time in early June 2012.

Can anyone help with some possible IDs, please?

It doesn't seem to be Fuligo septica (Dog's Vomit), Mucilago crustacea (also know as Dog's Vomit) or Reticularia lycoperdon (looks a bit like half a puffball stuck to wood). None of these seem to have a red stage in any info I can find.

Nearly four years have passed since your unanswered inquiry Geastrum, but you may be interested in an inquiry regarding a very similar growth which has now been answered.  That's on this link.
