Bug Larvae Pupa?

Can anyone tell me what this is please? It came from beneath a very bad piece of mossy lawn in Jersey, is almost an inch long, and wriggles it's tail - which looks like a stinger, when picked up.

It's definitely a pupa, most likely a moth pupa (in my opinion). Yes they do wriggle a bit if you handle them - I suppose it's a healthy sign.

Definitely a moth pupa, possibly Noctuidae, they frequently pupate under moss.  If you put it in a box with a layer of moss over it, and keep it damp, it should emerge (probably not until next year now) and you would be able to find out which moth it was.
