We have a few bees buzzing around the apex and eaves of our roof, which is 10m up. I am worried they could be scout bees and a hive is about to enter our roof or wall cavity. But bees have been up there for 10 days or so and I would have thought scout bees would have moved on by now. I therefore wonder if they are "Solitary" bees, possibly Mason Bees. I am no expert, having read all this on various websites. Could someone identify the bee from the picture please? I also attach a photo of the eaves where there is a lot of fluff and bits and pieces that the bees seem to have put there. Are they Solitary Bees building nests?
NB I have been wiping the eaves with vinegar and/or peppermint, to try to discourage scout bees. This bee came down attached to the rag! If they are Solitary Bees, should I discourage them to avoid problems with the house?
