There are 7 or 8 of these plants they have spikes on both sides of the leaves
and on the stem and seem to collect water at the base of the leaves, I have lived here over 30
years and have never seen these before, are they dangerous?.
Methinks you'd recognize it once it is in flower...

If not, it is teasel, Dipsacus fullonum
The 'spikes': I'm not sure if they are normal/common, but they certainly crop up in photos online.
They may be the topside manifestations of galls on the underside.
