.....not sure whether my pics have come out...but can anyone tell me what these are. They are some sort of plant ?,of which there are hundreds when the tide goes out.
If you pull them they come out like little worms OF AROUND 1 TO 3 " made up from shale..I have never seen before. These are on Minehead Somerset beach.
Agree with John, it's definitely the tube of the sand mason, Lanice conchilega (see eg http://www.ispotnature.org/species_dictionary/Lanice%20conchilega ) (& I've no idea why my reply here was wiped!)
Thanks again 615cEtc
I'd seen you'd replied so realised it was a mistake (&indeed have it on email, 31oct [...thanks so much, thats definitely the one...what a weird species..the top looked like a plant, and I thought how can it be a worm as its made up of shell!..thanks everyone.].But I'd be interested to know what you did (I'm assuming the end result was deletion of your thanks & my answer), as judging from my own questions it's impossible without some kind of malfunction. I once deleted 1 of my questions that hadnt had any replies, but for my other questions the only options are the actions edit thread (ie edit the question) & move thread; then edit/delete/replyto my own contributions, then reportabuse/reply to others. Sorry to belabour this, but I believe this has also happened elsewhere.
Im not sure what I did ..I think went to My Nature Plus,,saw the post had been replied to and as I was satisfied that it was indeed the sandmason worm it gave me the option to delete ,which i did ,forgetting that this was an information site for others.
As I said,I am new to this site and not too good on the computer either, dont understand half the jargon..blogs ,posts threads etc.!I have another user name now as asked for it to be changed from all the numbers and letters I was given.
