Ammonite in unusual location?

Hi I found this ammonite on the north devon/cornwall border. I have never heard of anyone finding anything like this here. It seems to be made of the native rock. I Found it in a small stream quite close to the sea. Maybe it's washed down from somewhere else? or is it a rare find?amonite.JPG

    Hello Chris

I think you have found a very nice ammonite and if you look closer you will probably find some more.

    Well done.

Quantox Head sounds to be in your area, it is a fantastic place to find fossils especially big ammonites.

Has it migrated from a collector's garden? I've found wonderful specimens on people's rockeries! (and come to think of it, left specimens on rockeries when I was younger and didn't know better!) Rx
