Does anybody know what species this is? At first i thought it was a Scots Pine but the growth seems a strange for Scots pine
We need some more information...
- number of needles per bundle
- where the tree is (country/county/area...)
- wild or man-made forest (may need to guess)
- in what way you think the growth strange
Even with that information, an identification may not be possible - more-detailed diagnosis may be required.
Pinus sylvestris (and other pines) can have various growth habits depending on age/exposure/soil fertility/etc.
They sometimes develop big burrs (http://uconnladybug.wordpress.com/2011/04/20/galls-burls-explained-sort-of/).
