Hi, I don't know much about bone identification but I found a strange part of a skull in my woodland today. Can anyone help me identify it? I suppose it is the skull rather than some kind of jaw bone. It might be a very common animal but I have looked at all the normal woodland animal skulls and I can't find a match. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Dom, this is the sternum (breast bone) of a bird. You don't say what part of the country/world you found it in or what size it is but it is very similar to a wood pigeon.
