Please help me identify this mystery plant which has grown to over 10 feet tall since it appeared right beside our bird table in the summer.
We think it must have grown from a seed out of the large bag of Wild Bird Seed which we buy in 20 kilo bags to put in our bird feeders.
The attached photo shows one of the outgrowing branches with a white sheet held beneath it.
It stands unaided but I have put two 8 foot canes to show its true height.
It has not been troubled by the frost we had recently . It has no flowers and no seed pods of any kind - as yet!
Someone said it might be a Rose Bay Willow Herb but others say that is not so.
I should be most grateful if you would let me know what you think it is.
I reckon your plant is Niger (Guizotia abyssinica (L.f.) Cass.). It comes up quite regularly under bird-feeders and becomes quite a dramatic plant!
