If possible an ID needed for my dad's 'problem' bumble bees (down in Sevenoaks Kent).
Apologies for the grainy images but he had problems getting a good picture.
I thought they looked like Bombus terrestris but they are nesting well above ground - over the garage door behind some weather boards They are not much bigger than 1cm long.
He knows they be(e)! important pollinators etc and he won't disturb them, but he asks how large the colony could become?
A good number of them are happily ensconced (100-200) and getting a bit narky if anyone approaches the garage...
If the first abdominal segment is yellow and not orange (hard to tell from the photos) them might they be soroeensis?
Look like B. terrestris to me. B. soroeensis is very rare in southern England
