My father found this several years ago in Kings Cliffe, Northants - he said he thought that somebody had thrown it at him, until he realised that there wasn't anyone around and it was warm to the touch. Can anyone confirm if it is a meteorite? (I thought it looked like a Sikhote Alin)
If it is a meteorite, do you know how much it would be worth and who, if anyone, would be interested in buying it?
From your last photo I would also say that it looks a lot like an ironstone (sometimes called iron pan), a natural formation of iron rich sandstone that erodes out of the host rock as it is harder and better consolidated than the surrounding rock. It then rusts slowly and that gives it a meteorite-like appearance. This would also fit with the geology of the area your father found it. But really we can't say until you test it with a magnet.
