Mining Bee Identification Help Please

Hundreds of these bees were found along a coastal path in Essex, which were nesting in the ground. They were found in March 2010.
Can anyone help to identify the species,

    I am sure I have seen these pics elsewhere and commented on them previously. I think we established that the pics can not have been taken in March, and that August was a better bet. That being so, and given the location and the habitat, then the saltmarsh frequenting Colletes halophilus would be a good bet. It is possible that this is the later-flying C. hederae should the pics prove to have been taken in September
