Skull fragment ID help.

Hi, retrieved this bone fragment from peat deposits offshore at very low tide on the North Kent coast. I know it's the back/base section of a skull as indicated by the epicondyles, beyond that i have no idea as to species? I imagine it was from a quite large animal. Any help would be very much appreciated. Sizes 8cm wide and 9cm long.

    Hi there

I wouldn't call myself an expert so I can't say for sure, but I would tentatively suggest it could be a horse/pony, though if you've found confirmed red deer bones in the area then that's also plausible. To be honest, there may be no way to definiteively say without actually analysing DNA from the bone!
