BARLEY
Hordeum vulgare L. (Poaceae).
First given its scientific name by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753, from plants growing in Uppsala, Sweden.
Originally native to the countries of the Near East, such as Israel and Jordan.
Life form: annual herb.
Parts used: seeds used as a staple grain; stems and leaves as livestock forage.

diploid.
