Planning and Design Consulting biographies

With more than 30 years of experience in interpretation, design and project management in heritage, museum and tourism environments, Gordon Rankmore has led interpretation, design and project management teams and developed feasibility studies and interpretative, management and business plans across these industries.

Gordon is also a lecturer and trainer in interpretation, exhibition design and interpretative writing.

Head of Interpretation and Design at the Museum since 1996, he is responsible for the policy and implementation of interpretative exhibitions, and for graphic design teams at the Museum. Gordon directs the Museum's public offer programmes, including Darwin Centre Phase 2 (opening 2009), the annual special touring exhibitions programme, the redevelopment of the permanent Life galleries exhibitions, brand development and corporate design.

Gordon has worked on consultancy projects both internationally and throughout the UK. Recent consultancy work includes:

• Master plan development and design and build for Restless Planet, a dinosaur visitor attraction in Dubai
• Content development for the double award-winning UK FCO pavilion at the 2005 Aichi Expo in Japan
• Lost Worlds, a 1000m² natural history exhibition for the National Council for Culture, Arts and Heritage, Qatar
• Feasibility studies for visitor attractions about the natural world in Norfolk and Scarborough, UK
• Survey and assessment of existing interpretation, display and visitor facilities at Nairobi Museum and selected regional museums and historic sites, managed by the National Museums of Kenya
• Development proposals for new permanent exhibitions and visitor facilities at Nairobi Museum.
