Notes

94 records

This is a species whose carapace shape is very similar to those of C. magna and C. lophura. It has a sculpture of concentric striae and has lateral glands that open just dorsal of the right asymmetrical gland. The majority of reliable records are from the Southern Hemisphere (59°-24°S). There is also a batch of records from 0°-15°N in the Atlantic which are probably a large form of C. magna, which occurred in abundance in a series of samples taken on the equator by Discovery. There are a few records from temperate latitudes (35-45°N) in the North Atlantic that are dubious and again were probably C. magna. There is no good bathymetric data for this species, but it is likely to be mesopelagic.
