  • The drawing has been annotated in black ink at bottom centre "1/4 the size of Nature", and at bottom right in brown ink "Native name Doo-ro-dang".
  • The drawing is unsigned and undated.
  • The drawing is inscribed in ink at top right with the number "293.". This refers to the catalogue list compiled by John Latham c. 1801 which was acquired with the drawings, and is filed with them at the end of the Watling Drawings series.
  • The drawing is annotated in pencil at top "Lesser Gannet Var Syn. vi 611". This has been copied in brown ink at bottom centre, "Lesser Gannet, variety Latham Syn 6. p. 611". The page reference is to Latham's General Synopsis of Birds (1781-85).
  • This bird was more recently identified as the Australian Gannet, Sula serrator in Hindwood K. A. (1970). (ITIS lists Morus serrator as the preferred name for the Australian or Australasian Gannet.)
  • The drawing is annotated in pencil at top "Lambert Drawing II. 91." This refers to a related set of drawings from the collections of the 13th Earl of Derby, held in the Library at Knowsley Hall, Lancashire.
  • A separate label is attached to the mount alongside the drawing at lower right. It is inscribed in pencil "not personator of Gould 1856".
  • The author of this catalogue record is Suzanne Stenning.
