  • The drawing is annotated in ink at bottom "Native name Gur-roo-mul. one fifth of the natural size, the only one yet seen in Port Jackson".
  • The drawing is signed in pale brown ink "T. Watling, delt. -", but is undated.
  • The drawing is annotated in pencil at right with the number "291". This refers to the catalogue list compiled by John Latham c. 1801 which was acquired with the drawings, and is filed with them at the end of the Watling Drawings series.
  • The drawing is annotated in pencil at top "New Holland Penguin Lath MS". This has been copied in ink at bottom, "New Holland Penguin Latham MS". (Latham MS refers to the catalogue list compiled by John Latham c. 1801 - see not above).
  • This bird was more recently identified as the Little Penguin, Eudyptula minor in Hindwood K. A. (1970).
  • A separate label is attached to the mount below the drawing. It is inscribed in pencil "Type".
  • The author of this catalogue record is Suzanne Stenning.
