Bird seen in frontal view, its body turned slightly to the right and its head in profile to the left. It is depicted perched on a branch which extends from a tree stump set on a grey-green base, against a plain background. The bird's head is black with a white chin and a grey stripe above the eye. The breast is red and the wing is dark brown with some white patches, heavily overlaid with black hatched lines. The drawing is framed by a pencil border and annotated in ink and pencil.

  • The drawing is annotated in pale brown ink at lower right "Native name Bood-dong. Natural size.".
  • The drawing is unsigned and undated.
  • The drawing is inscribed in ink at top right with the number "207.". This refers to the catalogue list compiled by John Latham c. 1801 which was acquired with the drawings, and is filed with them at the end of the Watling Drawings series.
  • The drawing is annotated in pencil at top "Crimson breasted Warbler Sup ii. 250 Variety?". This has been copied in ink at lower right, "Crimson breasted Warbler Latham Syn Suppt 2. p. 250.". The page reference is to Latham's Second Supplement to the General Synopsis of Birds (1802).
  • This bird was more recently described as "indeterminable" in Hindwood K. A. (1970).
