hide detailed image description

Drawing of a bird in left profile against a plain background, perched on a tree stump with a patch of grey-green wash behind it. The bird has a purple head and breast, with a dark pink-red patch around the eye and on the bill, a white throat and breast, and grey patches either side of the neck. It is otherwise coloured predominantly brown, with darker fan-shaped patches on the wing, and overlaid with hatched lines in darker tones. The tail and wing feathers are individually outlined and shaded, with the shafts of some feathers heavily marked in black. The drawing is framed with a thick black ink line and a triple-banded border, the central band of which is coloured with a pink wash and contains the title, signature and date. Most of the outer band appears to have been lost through the drawing having been cropped.
