  • The drawing is inscribed in blue pencil at top right with the number "26", which refers to the pre-1984 numbering system for the Watling Collection.
  • The drawing is inscribed with the title in black ink at bottom "North view of Sydney cove; taken from the Flag-staff, opposite the Observatory -". Wheeler and Smith (1988) suggest that this inscription appears to be in Watling's copperplate hand.
  • The drawing is unsigned and undated. McCormick (1987) suggests a date between 1793 and 1794 on the basis of buildings featured in the drawing.
  • The author of this catalogue record is Suzanne Stenning.
