  • George Raper]
  • Each drawing is inscribed with a title in black ink below; at left, "His Majesty's Brig SUPPLY 1790 off Lord Howe Island ~ Disc:d Feb:y 1788 ~", and at right "His Majesty's Ship SIRIUS in Sidney Cove 1789 ~".
  • The drawing is unsigned and undated
  • The drawing is inscribed in pencil at bottom left with the number "4", at top right "3", and on the reverse "12".
  • The dates in the titles refer to the events depicted, rather than the date the drawing was made. Raper may have made preliminary sketches of the Supply passing Lord Howe Island from on board the Sirius in March 1790, when both ships passed the Island en route to Norfolk Island (see also Raper drawing number 26, which includes views of Lord Howe Island with the peaks obscured by cloud as they are in this drawing), but the drawing alludes to the discovery of Lord Howe Island in February 1788 by Lieutenant Ball and the crew of the Supply. The view of the Sirius perhaps commemorates her return to Sydney Cove from Cape Town in May 1789, having circumnavigated the globe.
