Tamás was drawn to the movement of insects around a pool of water in a meadow near his home. Crouching to get a closer look, he balanced on the muddy ground to capture this tranquil scene of a single female fly poised on the water’s surface.
Long-legged flies like this can often be found on ponds or puddles, or around coastal waters. Some species perform elaborate courtship dances to attract mates.

Tamás first participated in a nature photo contest when he was eight. His favourite subject was birds, but he later also took pictures of insects, butterflies and flowers, especially orchids. Over the years his interests have broadened from animals to the whole of nature.
Help us harness the power of photography to advance scientific knowledge, spread awareness of important issues and nurture a global love for nature.
