Wei Fu's Image

The elegant geometry of these craneflies mating on a spiderweb caught Wei’s eye. After many attempts he captured the image he wanted of the vivid colours caused by the reflection of light from his head torch.

Many flies have thin transparent wings that refract light and create bright colour patterns. These vivid hues match the colour vision of most insects, suggesting that these rainbow wings play a role in communication.
