‘This is the most important photo of my career so far,’ says Carlton.

Captured by a camera trap, it was proof that female panthers were moving northwards into new territories for the first time in decades, a hopeful sign for Florida panthers. Carlton believes that ‘what future these kittens inherit is up to us’.

Carlton is a National Geographic explorer from Florida, USA, who uses photography to inspire conservation of his state's nature and culture. He founded the Florida Wildlife Corridor campaign in 2010 to build public support for the land conservation to keep Florida wild. He is the author of four books and a Founding Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers.
