On summer holiday, while walking through a mountain range in the Swiss Alps, Louis and his family encountered a herd of ibex. To Louis’ delight, one of the kids began to play, all stubby horns, pompom tail and high spirits, giving him the perfect chance to capture the joyful moment.
After being driven nearly to extinction, the ibex was reintroduced to Europe and now resides in rocky areas above the tree line. These agile climbers can evade predators, such as bears, that aren’t able to reach the steeper mountain heights. As night falls they descend to the alpine forest to graze, returning to the cliffs in the morning.
