From 2002, the elephant population in Chad’s Zakouma National Park plummeted due to severe poaching, with just 450 elephants remaining in 2011.
Faced with a crisis, the park was transformed. Following a change of management, bringing greater incentives and support for conservation, not a single elephant has been poached in nearly three years, and the elephants are breeding again.
