Following a familiar childhood trail through the forest, Hadrien noticed this unusual pattern of ice in a ditch, strewn with oak leaves.
Intrigued by its formation he was drawn to capture its beauty. Balancing precariously above the fragile surface he caught this moment of simplicity. In the days leading up to this image, the temperature had fluctuated from above freezing during the day to subzero at night. This is what caused the water to freeze in stages, creating these undulating layers. The scattered brown leaves will have been drained of green chlorophyll before falling, extracted by the tree for vital nutrients.
