Guy Richardson and Alex Nail's Image

Guy and Alex spend countless days and nights exploring Dartmoor National Park, developing an intimate understanding of its character and changing moods.

By using timelapse they sought to transform it from a place people travel past, to the living, breathing landscape they love. Dartmoor is rich in geological history. Its granite rocks formed around 300 million years ago, as magma rose through Earth’s crust gradually cooling and crystallising. Extensive weathering and erosion eventually brought it to the surface, where over four ice ages it froze and thawed, crafting the mighty blocks of granite that make up Dartmoor's iconic tors.

Behind the lens

Guy Richardson and Alex Nail

Guy has worked in the photography industry since leaving university. Having found a connection with landscape photography, he leads workshops and is constantly pushing himself to find new locations and to capture landscapes in their best light. He recently teamed up with Alex Nail to focus on timelapse projects. Alex is a full-time landscape photographer. He grew up on the western edge of Dartmoor and spent years hiking over the moor in search of new locations. He tries to create expansive, realistic images of grand landscapes in their best light. Over the past couple of years he has worked with Guy Richardson on a range of time-lapse projects.
