One of the wildlife feasts of the Russian Far East is the great salmon run.

Millions of Pacific salmon - including Chinook, chum, coho, pink and sockeye - swim upriver to spawn in the watersheds of the South Kamchatka Sanctuary, a great number of them in ending up in Lake Kuril. Dining on the spawning salmon are mammals and birds, including Steller's, white-tailed and golden eagles. Alexey went in spring to photograph the eagles, here at one of the many rivers flowing to the lake. 'The golden eagles seemed to have good table manners,' says Alexey. 'They rarely squabbled and seemed happy to share their catches.' By using a remote shutter release, he was able to get an eye-level view of their dining area.
